Mechanical axis correction of the bone alignment can sometimes be beneficial. There are multiple reasons that the bone may be bent and not aligned in a normal manner. This could be from trauma, previous surgeries, or from birth. The deviation in alignment can cause pain or create mechanical issues for the other surrounding bones or joints and cause pain, giving way, and instability. When correcting an orthopedic problem, it may be beneficial to realign any significant alignment abnormalities that may be contributing to the symptoms in order to increase success.
